Your account

Delete your account

Applies to: the Kalvien Chat Android app and its backend service. Effect: immediate and permanent. There is no grace period and no recovery.

The short version

  • In the app: Settings → Delete account. Two taps, done immediately.
  • No longer have the app? Email us and we will verify and delete it for you.
  • It removes your account, messages, media, keys, contacts, settings, and sessions.
  • It cannot be undone, and nobody — including us — can restore your message history afterwards.

01Deleting from inside the app

This is the fastest route and does not involve contacting anyone.

  1. Open Kalvien and go to the You tab.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Choose Delete account.
  4. Confirm. The deletion runs straight away.

You are not asked to explain yourself, there is no retention offer, and no confirmation email is sent asking you to reconsider.

02Deleting without the app

If you have uninstalled Kalvien, lost the device, or cannot sign in, email privacy@kalvien.com with the subject "Account deletion request" and include the phone number the account was registered with, in full international format.

We will need to confirm the request came from the account holder before we delete anything — otherwise anyone could delete anyone's account by knowing their number. Verification is normally a one-time code sent to that number by SMS.

  • We acknowledge requests within 72 hours.
  • We complete verified deletions within 30 days, and usually the same week.
  • There is no charge, and we will not ask you why.

03What deletion removes

  • Your account record — phone number, username, display name, bio, avatar.
  • Your public encryption key, so nobody can address you again.
  • All messages we hold for you, and all encrypted media you uploaded.
  • Your conversation memberships and settings — pins, mutes, archives, timers, drafts, read markers.
  • Your in-app contacts and block list.
  • All sessions and any push notification token.
  • Your app-lock passcode hash.

04What it cannot reach

Two honest limits

Messages already delivered to other people. Deleting your account removes our copy and yours. It cannot reach into someone else's phone and remove what they already received. No service can, and any that claims to is describing a UI trick.

Routine infrastructure backups. Your data is removed from our live systems immediately. Our hosting provider takes routine database backups for disaster recovery, and deleted rows can persist there until those backups age out on their normal cycle — a matter of days. We do not restore backups to recover deleted accounts, and encrypted content remains encrypted in them regardless.

Abuse reports made about an account are retained after review so that repeat behaviour stays visible. That means a report about you can outlive your account, limited to what safety genuinely requires.

05This is irreversible

Your encryption keys live on your device and never reach us. Once your account is gone, your message history is unreadable permanently — not withheld, not archived, not recoverable by us on request or under legal order. Signing up again with the same phone number creates a new account with new keys and an empty history.

If you only want a break rather than an ending, note that we have no "deactivate" state to offer you. Signing out is the closest thing, and it leaves your data where it is.
